Contemporary Artwork

Alex Jakob-Whitworth has studied Art to Master’s Degree level and has been working as an artist since 1983.

Currently her work is concerned with exploring the relationships between the land and the self.

Taught by Simon Bull, Alex has developed her own techniques for printmaking, and Julie Broadhurst introduced her to Art Textiles which she is also exploring as a means to expression.

She uses mixed media to produce landscape based images – incorporating oils, batik, watercolour, pastels, collage, charcoal, textiles and printmaking. Horses, as archetypes, figure frequently in her work – as she sees them as an important symbol of the link between the land and the "human condition".

She is currently exploring connections between generational and local histories – with particular reference to Cumbria and the effect of past global issues (such as World War One) on home communities.

She believes passionately that Art is a wonderful tool for articulation and comment as well as for encouragement and inspiration.

Alex also uses the drawn mark to express how she sees the world – and believes strongly that everyone is able to draw.

Images constantly added. Please keep checking back for new Artworks.
