There are significant welfare implications in the development and use of the treeless concept.

  • In training:
    • The treeless can be fitted to any horse, regardless of conformation.
    • The stride is freer therefore longer – this has wide ranging implications for Dressage, Endurance and Eventing.
    • Your horse’s back is not compromised in any way – as so often happens with traditionally treed saddles.
  • Problem horses can benefit
    • A wide range of physical and behavioural problems and issues have been alleviated by using this saddle.
  • There are also safety considerations:
    • The treeless is easy to fit, and in the case of rolling accidents there are no solid parts that could injure either the rider or the horse.
  • The rider benefits too:
    • Riders are able to adopt a correct position more easily, to self-correct and the saddle is also good for riders’ backs.
    • There is much substantially a greater feel through the saddle, by the rider. The horse can feel the rider with more clarity too. Result – softer aids.
  • Treeless is efficient and cost-effective:
    • The rider only needs one saddle for life, because it can be fitted to any horse.
    • No re-flocking, expensive tree repairs or rigid parts to cause wear or injury.

 

There is a growing band of thinking riders who have made the quantum leap of faith and have not looked back.
